Juggling Books and Brands

Writer: Allison Hall Allison Hall

Being a full-time student at Fresno State while working as a marketing assistant feels like juggling flaming torches—exciting, a bit risky, and always demanding precision. As I navigate through my business degree, I’ve learned to balance textbooks with spreadsheets, lectures with client meetings, and deadlines with deliverables.

Time management is my secret weapon. With classes, assignments, and work responsibilities all vying for my attention, I’ve become a master of scheduling. A daily handwritten to-do list is truly my lifeline. Nothing feels better than checking off all of the boxes for the day! Prioritizing tasks and breaking them down into manageable chunks has been crucial. For instance, I allocate specific time blocks each week for studying and working on marketing ideas, ensuring neither gets sidelined.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this dual-role life is the synergy between my studies and my work. Concepts I encounter in my business classes often come to life in my marketing job. Whether it's analyzing market trends or crafting strategic plans, the application of my knowledge enriches both my academic and professional experiences. I find myself bringing new insights to the table at work, while real-world challenges sharpen my classroom learning.

Surrounding myself with a supportive network has been invaluable during this busy time of my life. My professors and wonderful co-workers understand the demands I face and offer guidance and encouragement everyday! Networking with peers in both academic and professional circles provides new perspectives and can open doors to opportunities I hadn’t considered. Having a great work environment has definitely helped me juggle all of the responsibilities I've faced these past few years and it is something I do not take for granted!

Though it’s a challenging path, I embrace the journey with optimism and always try to think of it in a positive way. The combination of being a full time college student and hands-on work experience I have gained is shaping me into a versatile and skilled professional. Each day my goal is to just be 1% better than the day before. I am learning not just about business, but also about resilience, adaptability, and fueling my passion!

To anyone juggling a similar dual-life, remember: the balance may be exhausting, but with determination and the right mindset, you can turn the juggling act into a remarkable achievement that sets you apart from the rest!
